Attorney General Warns of Health Insurance Scams During Open Enrollment
News DeskFranklin County Free Press
Attorney General Dave Sunday is warning Pennsylvanians to be cautious of health insurance scams during open enrollment.
The Attorney General's Health Care Section reports an increase in fake websites posing as official health insurance marketplaces. These sites are designed to collect personal information and payments. Other unofficial websites are selling plans that may not meet federal standards or offer adequate coverage.
Pennie is Pennsylvania's official health insurance marketplace and is used by about 500,000 families. Plans offered outside of Pennie may not comply with federal requirements and may include strict limits on care, resulting in high out-of-pocket expenses.
Consumers with questions about applications, enrollment, or assistance should contact Pennie at www.Pennie.com or by calling 1-844-844-8040. Pennie can also connect consumers with certified assistants for in-person help.
Residents are advised to be cautious of unsolicited calls or emails during open enrollment, especially those offering limited-time deals or lower monthly costs. Personal information should not be shared with unknown callers or through email.
Pennsylvanians who believe they have been targeted or victimized by a health insurance scam should contact the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General's Health Care Section at 1-877-888-4877 or file a complaint online.
