Association of Kenya Insurers Rolls Out an App to Allow Customers to Verify Vehicle Insurance Status

Motorists will now be able to track the status of their insurance coverage digitally.

The Association of Kenya Insurers (AKI) has rolled out a digital platform called 'Bima Yangu', allowing users to also report claims and verify their life insurance tax relief certificate.

Users will be required to scan a QR code embedded on their motor insurance certificates to check their status, which can either be genuine, expired, invalid, or upcoming (starting at a later date).

"AKI has been on a digitization journey over the last five years to improve back-end operations and customer experience in the insurance industry. We have made it simpler to use and added other services to this revamped version," said AKI's Executive Director Tom Gichuhi.

Likewise, the application allows customers to report claims such as accidents, stolen vehicles, and stolen vehicle parts, upon which the app notifies the insurer of the claim.

The customer is then able to track the progress of the claim report.

Customers are also able to geolocate an accident scene, take and upload pictures and videos, and upload documents such as driver's licenses and police abstracts.

They will also be able to reach ambulance and towing services near them.

For the application's life assurance services, customers are entitled to 15 percent tax relief on the premium amount, subject to a maximum of Sh5, 000.
