AS MANY CANCER PATIENTS AND SURVIVORS LOSE ACCESS TO AFFORDABLE, QUALITY COVERAGE OPTIONS DUE TO THE EXPIRATION OF THE ENHANCED PREMIUM TAX CREDITS, ACS CAN CALLS ON CONGRESS TO URGENTLY EXTEND TAX CREDITS

Following Today's House Vote on Extending the Enhanced Tax Credits, ACS CAN Urges Lawmakers to Act Quickly to Find a Bipartisan Pathway to Bring Back These Lifesaving Tax Credits

WASHINGTON, D.C. Following today's bipartisan House vote on extending the enhanced tax credits, the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) is once again calling on members of the Senate and the House to prioritize the health and wellbeing of their constituents and come together in a bipartisan, bicameral way to extend the enhanced premium tax credits immediately.

Lisa Lacasse, president of ACS CAN, released the following statement:

"Now that the enhanced premium tax credits have expired, many cancer patients and survivors who have been able to afford health insurance coverage through the Marketplace are facing the heartbreaking reality of a January without coverage. For individuals in active cancer treatment, this is life-threatening.

"For more than two years, ACS CAN has been urging Congress to come together to ensure that millions of people don't lose access to affordable, comprehensive health insurance. Forcing those who can no longer afford coverage to delay potentially lifesaving cancer screening, detection and treatment, puts their lives on the line.

"We are heartened that more and more lawmakers across the House and Senate are seeing a need to act. They have an opportunity to address this health care affordability crisis and protect their constituents by coming together to prioritize access to affordable, meaningful health insurance by extending the enhanced tax credits. It is imperative that Congress finds a bipartisan, bicameral path forward to extend these tax credits, and they must do it now."
