APCIA Applauds Florida Legislature's Commitment to Idalia Recovery & Helping Homeowners Fortify Homes for Future Storms

TALLAHASSEE, Florida, Nov. 9 -- The American Property Casualty Insurance Association issued the following statement:

The American Property Casualty Insurance Association (APCIA) today issued the following statement, attributed to its vice president of state government relations Logan McFaddin, regarding the passage of House Bill 1C/Senate Bill 2C (Hurricane Relief and Resilience) by the Florida Legislature.

"Hurricane Idalia had devastating impacts on rural North Florida communities. The insurance industry is committed to helping policyholders in the region rebuild their lives and restore their property. We applaud the Florida Legislature's work during the special session to provide additional aid to these communities through important funding, key programs, and tax relief that will assist with their recovery.

"As more extreme storms threaten Florida, helping homeowners and communities better withstand these climate-fueled disasters is critical to saving lives and protecting property. Strengthening existing homes to meet stronger construction standards is a key step in that process. Yet, according to a recent APCIA/Harris Poll, nearly three-quarters of U.S. homeowners say they face barriers to increasing the resiliency of their home, mainly because it is too expensive.

"Governor Ron DeSantis and the Legislature have shown incredible leadership by supporting and prioritizing funding for resiliency initiatives and programs to directly help Floridians fortify their homes. By re-enacting the My Safe Florida Home Program, many Floridians are now able to pay for home mitigation projects that not only reduce the likelihood of damage to their property during future storms, but may also help lower insurance costs. We greatly appreciate Florida's leaders for dedicating additional funding to meet the demand for this important and successful program that can help strengthen communities.
