America’s Life Insurers and Financial Advisors Promote Financial Wellness at May 15 Washington Events

WASHINGTON, May 13 -- The American Council of Life Insurers issued the following news release:

From the streets of D.C. to the hallways of Congress, America's life insurance advisors and companies will show their support May 15 for policies and programs that bolster financial security and promote financial wellness for all Americans.

The day begins at 8 a.m. with the 38th running of the American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI) Capital Challenge, a three-mile road race in Anacostia Park that attracts members of Congress, high-ranking Administration officials, federal judges, active members of the military, members of the news media and other VIPs. This year, the ACLI Capital Challenge will benefit Junior Achievement USA, a national organization dedicated to giving young people the knowledge and skills they need to own their economic success, plan for their futures, and make smart academic and economic choices.

"ACLI believes strongly in Junior Achievement's purpose to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy," said ACLI President and CEO Susan K. Neely. "Through our support of Junior Achievement, we will teach the next generation of American workers the importance of planning early for retirement."

While hundreds of runners take to the streets for the ACLI Capital Challenge, hundreds of NAIFA members from all 50 states will convene on Capitol Hill for a day of meetings with federal lawmakers. Insurance and financial advisors will ask Congress for its continued support for policies that encourage financial literacy and help Main Street families and businesses prepare and save for their futures. They also will ask for support of bipartisan retirement legislation: the Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement (SECURE) Act in the House and the Retirement Enhancement and Savings Act in the Senate.

"NAIFA members are in Washington to advocate on behalf of the industry and Main Street consumers," said NAIFA CEO Kevin Mayeux, CAE. "Educating lawmakers on how advisors help their clients prepare for retirement, mitigate financial risks, set goals, and achieve prosperity makes them effective political advocates. Every American should have access to affordable financial advice, and NAIFA members are available to help consumers make important financial decisions, no matter how grand or how small."

On May 14, NAIFA members will attend the NAIFA Congressional Conference at the Marriott Renaissance in Washington, which will include remarks from Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Rep. Jackie Walorski (R-Ind.). ACLI is a sponsor of the conference.
