The American Property Casualty Insurance Association (APCIA) today issued the following statement, attributed to its vice president of state government relations Frank O'Brien, regarding the private passenger auto filing guidance that was issued by the Massachusetts Division of Insurance.
"The Massachusetts Division of Insurance yesterday issued Filing Guidance Notice 2021-A to notify carriers offering private passenger motor vehicle insurance in the state of the Division's expectations regarding the filing of private passenger auto rate filings, by June 30, 2021, to consider changing market dynamics associated with COVID-19. APCIA, together with our industry partners, has remained engaged with the Division throughout the pandemic on a wide array of issues.
"APCIA is pleased the guidance notice notes the industry's response to prior Division bulletins and that 98 percent of auto insurers writing in the commonwealth distributed policyholder dividends, refunds, or premium credits to reflect changes in driving patterns.
"APCIA is in the process of reviewing the filing guidance with our members and we appreciate the Division's continued willingness to take into account the wide variety of challenges insurers and policyholders face during this unprecedented time."
