The American Property Casualty Insurance Association (APCIA) issued the following statement in response to new affinity group discount regulations issued by the California Department of Insurance. This statement can be attributed to Mark Sektnan, APCIA vice president.
"We look forward to working with the California Department of Insurance on these regulations. We share the goal of helping low-income Californians have access to lower auto insurance rates.
"We opposed previous draft regulations that would have caused unintended consequences and taken away discounts for millions of California auto insurance consumers. Given the ongoing pandemic, now is not the time to take away tools that enable insurers to offer more discounts to hard working Californians.
"We appreciate CDI working to expand access to affinity group programs. We are still reviewing these new regulations and will actively participate in the upcoming regulatory process to ensure these programs and insurance savings are expanded to more communities."
