American Family Association: Defund Planned Parenthood Through American Health Care Act

TUPELO, Miss., April 27 -- The American Family Association issued the following news release:

The American Family Association (AFA, www.afa.net) is reminding the nation that Planned Parenthood is America's largest abortion provider and performs more than 300,000 abortions each year.

In recent years, the gruesome practices of Planned Parenthood were highlighted through undercover videos that showed Planned Parenthood employees discussing the barbaric sale of baby body parts.

"Not only is this inhumane, it is likely a felony," said AFA President Tim Wildmon. "Such an organization should not receive taxpayer dollars."

Congress is expected to vote soon on a reconciliation bill that is intended to repeal and replace portions of the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare. Not only does this legislation pull back some burdensome health care regulations but, more importantly, withholds the majority of funds that Planned Parenthood receives each year from the federal government. By Congress using the "reconciliation" process, both the House and Senate need only a simple majority to pass this bill.

"Due to the political divide in Washington," Wildmon added, "this might be the only chance we have to defund Planned Parenthood. While AFA may not agree with every detail of this legislation, we most certainly agree that Planned Parenthood deserves to be defunded as long as it perform abortions."

Through an Action Alert to its more than one million friends and supporters, AFA is asking concerned Americans to take action by urging Congress to defund Planned Parenthood by voting "yes" on the American Health Care Act of 2017 (H.R. 1628).
