AM Best Upgrades Credit Ratings of Marysville Mutual Insurance Company

AM Best has upgraded the Financial Strength Rating to A (Excellent) from A- (Excellent) and the Long-Term Issuer Credit Rating to “a” (Excellent) from “a-” (Excellent) of Marysville Mutual Insurance Company (Marysville) (Marysville, KS). The outlook of these Credit Ratings (ratings) has been revised to stable from positive.

The ratings reflect Marysville’s balance sheet strength, which AM Best assesses as very strong, as well as its strong operating performance, limited business profile and appropriate enterprise risk management (ERM).

The rating upgrades reflect a strengthening of Marysville’s balance sheet fundamentals in recent years, supported by consistently strong operating performance, which has driven policyholder growth. Surplus appreciation has led to consistent improvement in leverage and liquidity measures, and risk-adjusted capitalization, which is expected to help the company weather the current financial market volatility. Marysville’s risk-adjusted capitalization, as measured by Best’s Capital Adequacy Ratio (BCAR), has remained stable at the strongest level. However, as a single-state property insurer with geographic concentration in Kansas, Marysville’s limited scale of operations drive its limited business profile assessment. ERM is appropriate due to consistent measurement and monitoring of the company’s risks and reinsurance protection to mitigate its exposure to natural catastrophes.
