Alliance for Justice Issues Statement on Future of Affordable Care Act

WASHINGTON, July 8 -- The Alliance for Justice issued the following statement by President Nan Aron in advance of the oral arguments in the 5th Circuit in Texas vs. U.S., in which the Trump administration and allied Republican state officials will argue to strike down the Affordable Care Act:
"This case, in which tens of millions of lives literally hang in the balance, illustrates two critical points about what is going on in our justice system today. The first is that courts really, really matter to all of us more than at almost any other time we can think of.
"The second is that the Trump Administration is so clearly using the courts to achieve policy objectives it can't achieve legislatively. President Trump has appointed numerous federal judges with records of hostility to the ACA.
"He has made public statements that make it clear he wants any justice he appoints to the Supreme Court to rule against the ACA.
"The future of health care for millions of people is now at the mercy of a court system that is increasingly stacked against it, and that is a tragedy waiting to happen."
