Additional charges filed in alleged insurance scam
Bedford Gazette (PA)
An Everett man facing charges for insurance fraud committed while he was incarcerated in the Bedford County Correctional Facilty has two more felony charges filed against him related to the case.
Ronald Eugene Valentine, 40, had three third-degree felony counts — two for insurance fraud, and another for theft by deception. One addition insurance fraud count, and another of theft by deception, also both third-degree felonies, were filed April 18.
Valentine allegedly conspired with co-defendant Jessica Showalter, whom he was dating at the time, to provide a false report to the insurance agency alleging a vehicle Showalter was driving slid on ice and damaged the residence.
An investigation determined that the vehicle was inoperable at the time of the January, 2022, incident, and a prior claim had already been made for the property damage. The complaint cites recorded phone calls between Valentine and Showalter discussing the plan while Valentine was in the jail.
Valentine did receive a check from an insurance company in the amount of $2,148 for damages to the residence, according to the police criminal complaint.
A preliminary hearing on the additional charges is scheduled for 9 a.m.April 24 in Bedford County Central Court.
