NEW YORK, May 15, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Albanian American Success Stories Gala, held on May 3, was a long overdue evening honoring over a hundred successful Albanian-Americans.  Over 750 people gathered at Battery Gardens in Battery Park for the red carpet, star-studded event.  The Gala was part of a multi-media project spearheaded by Albanian Media Group, Fadil Berisha Studio, and the American Councils for International Education's Kosovo American Education Fund to recognize the contributions made by Albanian-Americans across industries and the arts.

"I am honored and humbled to be recognized alongside such accomplished Albanian-Americans and to be considered one of the examples of achievement and impact not only as an Albanian, but also as an American," said Zaim Hajdari. Honorees at the inaugural event included a Nobel Prize winner, New York officials, an Emmy award-winning reporter, Hollywood celebrities, and entrepreneurs. Others were also recognized for their achievements in areas including leadership, community impact, entrepreneurial spirit, education and politics.

My parents left Montenegro to immigrate to this country with $40 in borrowed money, and my infant sister.
