Washington Personal Injury Attorney Says High Cost of Car Accidents Underscores Need for Legal Advocacy

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) May 25, 2011

Veteran Washington personal injury attorneyDean Brett said this week that a recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report about the cost of automobile fatalities is a reminder that car accidents result in financial injury to innocent people.

“Even if you walk away from an automobile wreck, and insurance repairs your car, you pay for it in the end,” said Brett, a Washington auto accident lawyer and partner in Brett & Coats, PLLC.

“When there are injuries or a death, on top of the personal loss, financial losses extend far beyond what people expect, and those who have been unjustly harmed deserve help in meeting those costs.”

The CDC report said that an analysis of data from 2005 showed that deaths in vehicle crashes had resulted in $41 billion in medical and work-loss costs across the country. In Washington State, the CDC found $665 million in total crash-related costs in a single year, which comprised $657 million in work-loss costs and $8 million in medical costs.

“The CDC studied fatal wrecks, but there are losses, higher losses in many cases, because of medical costs after wrecks that cause injuries but not death,” Brett said. “Anyone in any car wreck needs to consider lost wages, medical bills, pain and suffering, and other expenses.”

In addition to insurance money, a person hurt by a negligent driver may be able to recover damages from the person who caused the injury, or that person’s employer in some cases, Brett said. Likewise, if a person dies because of injuries suffered in a car accident caused by careless driving, his or her survivors may pursue a Washington wrongful death claim.

“Anyone who has been harmed by a car accident involving another party needs to consult seasoned legal counsel to protect their rights,” Brett said. “And, if another person is found to have caused your injuries or the death of a loved one through their negligence, you have a right to be made financially whole.”

The Washington car accident attorneys of Brett & Coats have represented clients with major auto accident, personal injury and wrongful death claims for nearly 40 years. The firm, which has offices in Seattle, Tacoma, Spokane and Bellingham, has recovered numerous multimillion-dollar claims for its clients.

“Our goal is to help car accident victims secure the compensation they need to move on with their lives,” Brett said. “We make sure that insurance companies and negligent parties properly compensate injured people for the losses they are due from major personal injuries and wrongful deaths.”
