Warner Robins teen charged in homeless man’s death

April 22--WARNER ROBINS -- A 19-year-old who was driving a pickup truck that struck and killed a homeless man last month has been charged with misdemeanor vehicular homicide, Houston County jail records show.

Justin Terrell Bryant of Warner Robins was being held Monday afternoon on a $29,600 bond after police sought charges against him, according to the jail.

Other misdemeanor charges brought by Warner Robins police include possession of alcohol underage, open container violation, failure to yield the right of way/crossing road, failure to extend due care and failure to show proof of insurance.

Bryant was jailed Monday morning on the charges.

Whit Martin, 45, of Moultrie was riding his bicycle near Watson Boulevard and Knodishall Drive when he was hit by the pickup truck shortly before 9 p.m.March 16, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Bryant was pulling out of the parking lot at the Watson Central Shopping Center at 2191 Watson Blvd. as Martin was pedaling east on Watson Boulevard when the pickup truck collided with the bicycle.

The death of Martin produced an outpouring from people within the Warner Robins community who didn't want to see him buried as a pauper without a service. McCullough Funeral Home donated the memorial service and burial. More than 150 people paid tribute to Martin at the funeral.
