April 10--DANFORTH, Maine -- Several members of two families lost nearly everything they own on Thursday evening after a fire that originally began in a two-story home on Central Street ultimately spread out of control to another residence nearby.
No family members or firefighters were injured, according to Danforth Fire Chief Michael Koposcinski. He said Friday that the fire at the first Central Street home was called in at 12:10 p.m. Thursday.
The chief said he did not want to release the names of the homeowners, but confirmed that two people lived there. He said he did not know how the blaze started, but that the state fire marshal's office was investigating.
According to Koposcinski, the fire had engulfed the home by the time 21 firefighters and equipment arrived. The firefighters also were unable to keep the flames from spreading to another two-story dwelling located "close behind" the original burning structure.
The chief said he believed that "four or five people" lived in the second home, which sustained significant interior damage due to the fire.
Koposcinski said his department received mutual aid from firefighters from Hodgdon, Linneus, Baileyville, Princeton and Indian Township. Crews spent more than eight hours battling the blaze, he said Friday.
He was not sure if either family had insurance. The chief said he thought the displaced residents had gone to stay with family.
