Troy Holds Foundation Golf Tournament

Proquest LLC

On June 20 the Troy Area School District Foundation held its 10th annual fundraising golf tournament at the Towanda Country Club in Towanda Pennsylvania. It was a beautiful day for golf and 96 golfers participated in the "Florida Scramble" tournament.

Each participant in the tournament received a door prize of a Nike golf shirt (donated by BSN Sports) with the embroidered logo of the Foundation (paid for by MC Insurance and Cummings Lumber Company).

Several raffles were held, including one sponsored by Rick and Sherry Hoover for a $300.00 gift card at Hoover's Hardware and Do It Center. Other generous local sponsors of raffle items included Krise's Tire, Vinnie's Pizza, Barnstead Pantry, Ulmer's Golf Shop, Hutter's Florists, C & G Wilcox and Guyette Communication.

The Tournament enjoys the sponsorship of over 80 local individuals and businesses including Bill & Sally Eick (Windy Acres Farm), Besley Century Farm, Gas Field Specialists Inc., EOG Resources, James and Darlene VanBlarcom, Talisman Energy, Jostens, Eighmey Buick, MC Insurance, Citizens and Northern Bank, Banyan Consulting LLC, Brann Williams Caldwell and Sheetz, Trojan Transport Inc., Dandy Mini Marts, Leona Meat Plant, Cudd Energy Services, Baird Financial Services, Cummings Lumber Company Inc., Shipman Trucking Company, Cooke's Pharmacy Inc., Judson's Inc., Chemung Canal Trust Company, First Citizens National Bank, North Penn Family of Services, Hoover's Do It Center, Gary Ulmer's Golf Shop, Ameriprise Financial, Columbia Cross Roads Equipment, Delta Dental, Donald White Accounting, Bob and Donna VanBlarcom (Fairview Farms), Bronson Busing, Compass Pipeline, Lubbering Corporation, McClure Company, Cozen O'Connor, Dr. Steve Renzi, Pump and Pantry, UGI Energy, Bradco Printing, BSN Sports, DJM Designs, Evalou Lane LLC, G.S. Sign Shop, Trojan Touchdown Club and Troy Suds Depot.

Donald White won the putting contest and a beautiful putting trophy contributed to the tournament by C & G Wilcox Engravings and Images of Towanda Pennsylvania, along with a cash prize of $140.00 which he graciously donated to the Foundation.

The long drive contest was won in the men's category by Jim Hoover, in the women's category by Kim Cummings, and in the senior's category by Jack Kendall.

The straightest drive on hole number 6 was won by Scott Cummings in the men's category, by Linda Messner in the women's category and by Clyde Robbins in the Senior Category.

Glen Dunbar won the closest to the pin contest on hole number 16 at 7'3" and was awarded a trip to the Rock 'Roll Hall of Fame donated by Wiggle Radio. Wiggle has been a longtime supporter of the Foundation and its golf tournament, and has sponsored this valuable prize each year.

John Selfe won the closest to the pin contest on hole number 14 with a distance of 8'8" for a cash prize of $165.00 which he generously donated to the Foundation.

A car was offered for a hole in one on hole number two. The hole- in-one sponsor also offered prizes for holes in one on two other holes. Unfortunately, there were no winners. Eighmey Buick, in Troy, put the car up as a prize and MC Insurance Company was the sponsor of the contest. Jerry May, a Principal in MC Insurance Company also played in the tournament and is a member of the golf tournament committee, having previously served as a Co-Chairman along with David Schucker.

The third flight was won by the team of Ron Krise, Ken Krise, Denny Beardslee and Jay Kendall, representing Krise's Tire (also a sponsor). Finishing second in the third flight was the team of Jerry May, Rick Hoover, Lee Cummings and Claude Carman.

The second flight was won by a team including Don White, Roy and Kim Cummings, and Evan Williams Jr., with a score of 154. Finishing second was the Nickerson team of Al, Kent and Kirk Nickerson and Michael Brobston.

The overall tournament winner and the first flight was won with a score of 129 by the team comprised of Pat McGuire, Linda Messner, Daryl Deifenbach and Matt Lee. Finishing second with a score of 135 was the team of Bernie Betke, Dave Johnson, Brian Canfield and David Graham.

The Foundation is grateful for the support of the sponsors and the continued participation of players and looks forward to another successful tournament next year on June 19, 2015.
