Top Doctors in High Demand Embrace New, Simpler Service Models

PR Newswire Association LLC

SAN FRANCISCO, April 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- HelloMD (http://hellomd.com) today announced that leading medical specialists – including neurosurgeon Dr. Brian Andrews - in San Francisco have joined its marketplace for self-pay patients. The company has seen strong interest in its services following a successful initial launch just one month ago.

Significant changes in the insurance markets have created fertile conditions for leading doctors in private practice to market their services to a sought after pool of self-pay patients. Millions of newly insured, with no increase in the number of doctors, continues to drive demand for top doctors. Those with the experience and reputation to justify it are seeing long waiting lists for insured patients seeking treatment.

In response to this continued demand, leading doctors are simply opting out of insurance for service, turning instead to a simpler, cash for service model. Costs are reduced without the insurance overhead, and patient and doctor are free to make healthcare decisions independent of insurance interference.

Dr. Brian Andrews is a leading neurosurgeon in San Francisco. Nationwide clientele with insurance typically wait six months to get an appointment with Dr. Andrews. He recently joined the HelloMD platform, where an appointment can be had for self-pay patients without delay. Prices for most common surgeries are priced on the site - the company promises price transparency – along with several payment options including integrated finance options, and reimbursement from insurance after treatment where possible.

"Like a lot of doctors, I am frustrated with dealing with insurance companies," said Dr. Brian Andrews. "The idea of a simpler business model with straightforward cash pricing is appealing to me, and to many of my patients too. The demand justifies it, and so the idea of opting out is attractive," he continued.

Mark Hadfield, Founder of HelloMD stated: "We are thrilled to see top neurosurgeons like Dr. Brian Andrews joining HelloMD. This validates our vision of being able to shop for healthcare nationwide, with simple, bundled pricing and access to the top specialists in each city."

HelloMD profiles the leading specialists in each city, and markets their services to self-pay patients. The company targets both national and international patients; using sophisticated social media and high value content created by the doctors in the marketplace. Medical specialties represented include orthopaedic, fertility, urology, oncology, ophthalmology and cosmetic surgery. The company is currently profiling doctors from San Francisco, Los Angeles and Las Vegas, but is planning a national and eventual international rollout.
