Suspicious fire destroys home

April 28--The LaGrange Fire Department and the LaGrange Police Department are investigating a fire that broke out around 6:30 a.m. Monday at a home in the 200 block of Grady Street.

Fire officials said when they arrived on scene the house was fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze quickly and determined the home was vacant.

According to the report, while crews were inspecting the residence, they determined there were utilities, but no electrical power and no insurance on the home. Lt. Dale Strickland with LPD said firefighters also could not find a point of origin to the blaze, meaning nothing shows it was intentionally set or that is was accidental. Officials consider the blaze suspicious.

LFD and LPD officials were still investigating this morning.

TCSO investigators catch burglary suspect

Investigators with the Troup County Sheriff's Office said they arrested and charged John C. Hay Jr., 44, with one count of burglary. Investigators believe that Hay committed the crime in 2014 and stole nearly $22,000 worth of property from a home. Investigators said they were also able to recover some of the property and returned it to the victim.

Alleged thieves steal more than $1,500 from car

A woman told LaGrange police that someone stole several items from her car while she was at an appointment inside Life Chiropractic on Lafayette Parkway about 3 p.m. Monday.

The victim told police she thought she locked her car. She told officers she was gone less than 30 minutes then noticed her wallet had disappeared from under the passenger seat. The wallet contained a recently cashed check, $20 cash, four missing social security cards, her drivers license and an LG touchscreen cell phone. The total value was estimated about $1,518.
