Suspect arrested on several charges

Nov. 30--PICAYUNE -- The Picayune Police Department reported two seperate incidents -- one involving a suspicious person complaint and another regarding two commercial burglaries that ended up apparently being related.

"An officer was flagged down on Nov. 24, at 2:55 a.m., in reference to a suspicious person who had been driving a mercury Grand Marquis," said Capt. Jeremy Magri, assistant to the chief of police.

"Upon officers patrolling the area, they located the vehicle on Memorial Boulevard and Telly Road," he said. "At this time the officers initiated a traffic stop, at which time the vehicle attempted to evade the traffic stop and ended up crashing into a sercurity fence at an apartment complex on South Haugh and Smith."

"At this time, the driver fled on foot and the officer apprehended him," Magri said. "He was indentified as Conel Holloway, 30-years-of-age, of 715 S. Haugh Ave.

"A search of the suspect yielded a plastic bag containing a green, leafy substance believed to be synthetic marijuana, which was found in his pants pockey along with over $100 in U.S. currency."

"While still searching the subject, he continued to resist arrest and tried to flee on foot," Magri said. "He was then placed in a patrol car and it was learned through NCIC that his driver's license was suspended and there was not insurance.

"At this time, he was transported to the Criminal Justice Center where he was booked for possession of synthetic marijauna, failure to yield to blue light and siren, driving while license suspended, no insurance, careless driving, disorderly conduct, failure to comply times two and resisting arrest by fleeing," Magri said.

Officers later learned through investigation that two commercial burglaries had been committed at the strip mall where Holloway was located, Magri said.

"Through video footage, detectives were able to identify Holloway as the suspect in the commercial burglaries, at which time he was additionally charged with two counts of commercial burglary," Magri said.
