Special Awards Ceremony Planned for Senior Artist Showcase
TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Aug. 31 -- The city of Tallahassee issued the following news release:
Juried Exhibits Features Variety of Works from Around the Big Bend - The Senior Artist Showcase, an annual juried art exhibit featuring the work of older artists throughout the Big Bend area, is back for its third year. The public is invited to a special awards ceremony and public reception at the Tallahassee Senior Center on September 3. The awards announcement begins at 6:30 p.m. Both the Senior Center and LeMoyne Center for the Visual Arts will be open that evening to participate in the Council on Culture and Arts' First Friday event from 6 to 9 p.m.
Richard L. Puckett, retired executive director of LeMoyne Art Foundation, selected 121 artworks for the exhibit from 225 images submitted for consideration. Selected artworks are currently displayed and can be viewed at the following locations.
The Atrium Gallery of the Brogan Museum, 350 S. Duval Street. Works on display from August 25 - September 13, Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, 1-5 p.m. Cost is $10 for adults, $5 for students and seniors. Free admission for seniors on Thursday evening, Sept. 9 from 5-7 p.m.
The Puckett Galleries at LeMoyne Center for the Visual Arts, 125 N. Gadsden Street. Works on display from August 20 - September 18, Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cost is $1 (donation).
The Old Armory Galleries at the Tallahassee Senior Center, 1400 N. Monroe St. Works on display from August 6 - September 24, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Admission is free.
The exhibits include, among other works, paintings by Gabrielle Wu Lee, Rosemary Ferguson and Ben Bivins; drawings by Bobbie Buckingham, Wendy Devarieux and June Zent; photography by Wayne Denmark, Jessie Lovano-Kerr and Larry Fuchs; fiber art by Valerie Goodwin, Ramona Abernathy-Paine and Judy Ehrhardt; glass work by Terrie Corbett and Susan Peacock; and sculpture by Joan Matey, Stephen J. Fox and Marlene Greenfield.
The exhibition is sponsored in part by WellCare Health Plans. The Tallahassee Senior Center is operated and maintained by the City of Tallahassee's Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Affairs Department.
