Sleep HealthCenters Launches PAPCenter™ PAP Therapy Compliance Management Program

BOSTON, Nov. 9, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Sleep HealthCenters has released the latest version of PAPCenter, a clinically-relevant, data-driven way to track, monitor and manage PAP (Positive Airway Pressure) therapy for sleep apnea.

PAPCenter is Sleep HealthCenters' sleep compliance monitoring system that provides tracking and customized usage data for an individual patient, while also offering the ability to measure and confidentially report data for larger groups of patients. PAPCenter allows for the central collection of data from devices from various manufacturers, such as ResMed and Respironics.  Managers of PAP counselors and respiratory therapists will also find PAPCenter a strong management tool for the education and on-going training of their staff, with the ability to track compliance by patient caseload.

The development of an effective, advanced tool to help manage the clinical, operational and communications aspects of PAP therapy was triggered by three factors:  1) insurers and self-insured employers requiring sleep medicine providers to report, maintain and improve their PAP patients' compliance rates; 2) an appropriate shift in focus within sleep medicine from diagnostics to treatment; and, 3) technology advancements offering access to data through means other than face-to-face interactions.

PAPCenter's unique features allow clinicians to enter additional information about the patient, such as BMI (Body Mass Index), blood pressure and weight, as well as tracking all interactions with the patient (clinic appointments, follow-ups, email, phone), along with the already downloaded device data.  Once gathered, the system provides a customized snapshot of a patient's progress and compliance with their PAP device.  Reporting on correlations between the gathered data are available.

"Each year, more and more companies are implementing sleep health assessment, diagnosis and treatment programs to improve the health, performance and safety of their employees," comments Paul Valentine, president and chief executive officer of Sleep HealthCenters.  "Effective sleep health programs lower healthcare costs and fatigue-related accidents, which improve employee performance and retention.  Tracking outcomes is critical to the success of any of these programs.  PAPCenter has proven to be an effective tool in improving patient compliance and management with sleep providers, employers, referring providers and insurance carriers across the country."

Sleep HealthCenters is a network of specialized sleep medicine centers accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) and staffed by board-certified sleep specialists.  Sleep HealthCenters' specialized sleep labs, clinics and programs provide all the required services needed to screen, diagnose, treat and support patients with sleep disorders. These integrated services enable Sleep HealthCenters to offer patients, employers, referring providers and managed care organizations  greater convenience, valuable information and better outcomes.
