Sedgwick’s Dr. Teresa Bartlett Named Among Business Insurance’s 2012 Women to Watch [Professional Services Close – Up]

Proquest LLC

Sedgwick has announced that Senior Vice President and Medical Director Teresa Bartlett, M.D., was recently selected by Business Insurance magazine as one of its 2012 Women to Watch.

According to a release, Dr. Bartlett was honored by the magazine at its leadership workshop and awards luncheon in New York City on December 4.

The annual program recognizes 25 women for their outstanding work in risk management, benefits management, commercial insurance, and related fields. Honorees are selected by the publication's senior editors based on nominations submitted by readers. Recent professional achievements, influence on the marketplace, and contributions to the advancement of women in business are all part of the selection criteria.

Bartlett provides strategic counsel and operational support in all areas of medical management at Sedgwick, including managed care, return to work, bill review, medical outcomes protocols, and health and safety matters. She also represents Sedgwick in efforts to integrate occupational and non-occupational medical services, as well as in public policy matters affecting healthcare in the claims management process.

Before joining Sedgwick, Bartlett served for 20 years as the senior manager responsible for integrated healthcare and disability medical programs at Chrysler Group. She managed its multi-state workers' compensation and disability programs and led the development of evidence-based medical substantiation procedures that improved care for workers. She also managed Workplace Safety and Insurance Board programs for the company's Canadian operations.

"Dr. Bartlett has made tremendous contributions to the managed care industry during her career both as a physician and as a senior business leader," said David A. North, president and CEO of Sedgwick. "She is truly deserving of this award."

In 2008, Crain's Detroit Business presented Bartlett with the Health Care Hero Award for workplace back pain mitigation initiatives. In addition, a team directed by Bartlett received the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine's 2005 Corporate Health Achievement Award for the development and implementation of a best practices clinical model. Bartlett is also a past member of the steering committee of the Michigan Primary Care Consortium.

Her medical background is in family medicine. When she transitioned to the business world, she learned the art of blending medical best practices with business acumen.

"With her compassion for injured workers and extensive managed care experience, Dr. Bartlett has had a positive impact on the services we deliver to employers," North said. "She also mentors physicians and other medical professionals in our industry on how to enhance their careers in business by providing guidance and education on key managed care topics, such as best practices for narcotic management and overall health care quality initiatives."

Sedgwick Claims Management Services, Inc. is a North American provider of claims and productivity management solutions.
