The program underwent rigorous evaluation by a panel of reviewers. The commission recognized SFCC's substantial compliance with the nationally established CAHIIM accreditation standards and its commitment to continuous quality improvement in higher education.
"Students must have graduated from an accredited program to sit for the exam," she said. "These credentials are what make graduates marketable. With all the new reviews, audits and laws regarding health information, organizations have begun hiring only credentialed employees. That's what makes this accreditation important."
SFCC's Health Information Technology Associate of Applied Science degree program is designed to provide the knowledge and skills needed for a career in health information management. It is a two-year program that teaches students how to maintain the security, integrity, confidentiality, and availability of medical records in every type of health care setting.
SFCC also offers a Professional Certificate in Medical Coding that provides students with the basic skills needed for entry-level positions and quick entry into the workforce. Employment opportunities are available in medical and dental offices, hospitals, insurance companies, laboratories, medical supply companies, and other health care related organizations.
