Realty Capital Securities Adds Three Skilled Professionals to its Due Diligence Team

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Realty Capital Securities (RCS), the wholesale broker-dealer affiliate of American Realty Capital, today announced that Alan Calderon, Hazel “Hazy” Malcolmson and Anthony Bains will join Scott Rivera to augment Realty Capital Securities’ due diligence team. Calderon will serve as Co-head of Due Diligence and Malcolmson will serve as Assistant General Counsel for RCS. Simultaneously, Anthony Bains was appointed as American Realty Capital’s Senior Vice President of Finance. Commensurate with its growth, Realty Capital Securities due diligence initiatives have expanded significantly over the past several years and will be further enhanced by Calderon’s research expertise, Malcolmson’s legal background and Bain’s accounting, finance and management skills.

“Our comprehensive approach to due diligence relies on the depth and breadth of expertise across a diverse and skilled team,” said Nicholas S. Schorsch, Chief Executive Officer for American Realty Capital. “The appointments of Alan, Hazel and Anthony will strengthen our efforts to provide enhanced transparency to the broker-dealer community on all dimensions of RCS platform product offerings.”

Most recently, Calderon was Director of Investment Research for RCS. Prior to joining Realty Capital Securities, Calderon performed equity research on publicly traded REITs, including three years on the #2 ranked Institutional Investor Morgan Stanley sell-side equity research team, specializing in the retail REITs. He also spent seven years as the Senior U.S. REIT analyst at European Investors Inc., specializing in the office, industrial, retail, residential and Canadian REITs and REOCs. At European Investors Inc., Calderon developed a research platform that included fundamental and technical analysis, in addition to establishing valuation methodologies applied across the U.S. and Canadian REIT universe. Prior to working in equity research, Calderon specialized in real estate audit and taxation at Berdon LLP and Arthur Andersen. Calderon received a B.S. in Accounting from Lehigh University and an MBA from Columbia Business School. Alan is a Certified Financial Analyst.

Malcolmson joins Realty Capital Securities after working for four years with Proskauer Rose, one of the industry’s leading law firms. As an Associate in Proskauer’s Corporate Department—Capital Markets Group, Malcolmson participated in the preparation of disclosure documents and public filings for non-traded REIT offerings and, through that experience, gained extensive knowledge of all of the American Realty Capital-sponsored investment programs. Malcolmson’s legal perspective and knowledge in these practice areas will deliver an even more comprehensive diligence solution for RCS and for the broker-dealer and third party diligence communities.

Bains will serve as American Realty Capital’s Senior Vice President of Finance and will be the American Realty Capital accounting department liaison for RCS’ diligence group. Anthony brings finance, accounting and diligence skills to the team through his experience in to the commercial real estate industry, as a financial executive with LandCap Partners, Nestle USA, Forest City Development and through his public audit experience with Deloitte Touche. Bain’s professional experience in the accounting and management disciplines complements the competencies of RCS’s Diligence Team.

Commenting on the appointments, Realty Capital Securities President Louisa Quarto said, “Alan’s experience as a public company analyst, Hazel’s legal background and Anthony’s financial and accounting knowledge bring an institutional dimension to our diligence efforts that complements Scott Rivera, our due diligence manager, providing deep and broad due diligence, investment analysis and research and risk management experience.” Quarto added, “The skill sets, experience, perspective and dedication Alan, Hazel, Anthony and Scott bring to our organization is unmatched in the industry. We couldn’t be happier and more excited about the evolution of the diligence team and are confident that this serves as another example of how we continue to lead the industry in best practices.”
