RMACT Launches Integrated Fertility and Wellness Program

Norwalk, CT (PRWEB) January 3, 2011

Reproductive Medicine Associates of Connecticut (RMACT) – Fairfield County’s largest fertility clinic and egg donation center– is launching RMACT’s Integrated Wellness and Fertility Program, which offers patients resources to improve their overall health through nutrition, yoga, acupuncture, support groups and counseling, both for individuals and couples. These services complement RMACT’s renowned medical fertility treatments, increasing a patient’s likelihood of becoming pregnant.

“For years our fertility team has been working with patients to identify ways they can improve their overall health,” said Dr. Mark Leondires,Infertility Doctor and Medical Director at RMACT. “As we added services, it became clear that the most effective way to put this into practice is to create a program that patients can tailor to their individual needs. We see RMACT's Integrated Fertility and Wellness Program as a way to increase our patients’ success with fertility treatment, as well as hopefully leaving them with a lifetime of improved health.”

RMACT’s Integrated Fertility and Wellness Program is comprised of five key services:

   •      Fertile Yoga: Yoga is known for reducing stress and muscle tension. RMACT offers a specific form of yoga – Fertile Yoga – which is designed to help women connect with their bodies through gentle, thoughtful movements, induce relaxation and find a sense of self. Lisa Rosenthal, MA, RYT-200, founder and instructor of Fertile Yoga, leads RMACT’s program.

   •      Acupuncture: Women with infertility issues use acupuncture to help regulate menstrual cycles, reduce stress and improve blood flow to the pelvic area and uterus. RMACT offers two types of acupuncture for fertility treatments – traditional and laser, which is a viable alternative for people who have a fear of needles. RMACT is a leader in laser acupuncture; having been part of standout clinical study that found that laser acupuncture performed both before and after embryo transfer during an In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) cycle improved a woman’s chances of implantation by up to 15 percent. RMACT has two licensed acupuncturists on staff: Jing Zhang, MS, and Amy Matton, MS.

   •      Fertility Nutrition Program and Seminars: A lifestyle of nutritious decisions can help patients manage hormonal conditions and symptoms, as well as improve overall health. To help patients navigate the challenges of diet and nutrition, RMACT offers a complete Fertility Nutrition Program, which includes individual counseling, seminars and one of Connecticut’s only Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) programs. RMACT’s Nutrition Program is led by Carolyn Gundell, M.S.

   •      Individual and Marital Therapy: Infertility spurs a range of emotions that can complicate an already emotional time. Coping with these emotions and finding peace with a partner is essential to managing stress. RMACT’s staff includes Lisa Tuttle, PhD., clinical psychologist and Jane Elisofon, M.S.W., L.C.S.W., licensed clinical social worker.

   •      Support Groups: Through Support Group sessions, patients are able to create a network of people going through similar experiences. It is a place to openly share their feelings, fears and concerns, which patients frequently conceal from friends and family. There are several offered; some are led by peers while others are led by mental health professionals.

The cornerstone of RMACT remains expert medical diagnosis and treatment. RMACT has four board-certified doctors, an accredited lab, a state-of–the-art facility for procedures, locations throughout Fairfield county for patient convenience and participates in groundbreaking clinical research along with its affiliate RMA practices across the country. Each RMACT patient has a fertility team comprised of a primary doctor and nurse, as well as a patient coordinator and a financial contact to answer questions about billing and insurance. The fertility practice has a pregnancy rate of over 60% for women under 35 years old, which is above the national average, according to Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology, also known as SART.
