Canine Companions’ inaugural
“It’s important to us to be actively engaged with Canine Companions, and one way we do just that is providing our support to their many volunteers at the conference,” said Wiskowski. Canine Companions breeds and trains assistance dogs and ensures the longevity of companion partnerships by carefully matching a dog’s skills with the needs of the disabled person. Canine Companions trains four types of assistance dogs to master over 40 specialized commands: Service Dogs, Skilled Companions, Hearing Dogs, and Facility Dogs. After completing training, the dogs are teamed with a graduate during an intensive two week training period.
Canine Companions for Independence is the largest non-profit provider of trained assistance dogs with five regional training centers across the country.
