Pair charged in connection with disputes

Aug. 19--WILLIAMSON -- A pair of men arrested on charges connected with domestic disputes were among defendants recently arraigned on a variety of criminal charges in Mingo County Magistrate Court.

Jeremiah Jackson, 34, of Williamson, was arrested for domestic battery.

The victim, Jackson's ex-girlfriend, spoke with officers at Williamson Memorial Hospital, where it was allegedly observed that she had redness on the face and neck, abrasions to the neck, face and elbow, a busted lip and scratches. Based on the physical evidence it was determined that an altercation had occurred between the victim and defendant.

Jackson allegedly struck the victim during an argument at his home on Little Oak Street in Williamson. The victim alleged that Jackson struck her in the face and body several times, shoved her, then kicked her down the steps of his property.

Officers spoke with residents in the area, who said they did not see the incident but reported hearing an argument. These individuals also allegedly reported that arguments between Jackson and his ex-girlfriend have been a common occurrence in the past.

William Bruce Triplett, 36, of Turkey Creek, was arrested for domestic assault.

The defendant reportedly parked his car in front of the post office in Delbarton and walked to the victim's home. According to police reports, Triplett "verbally assaulted" the victim and was then placed under arrest.

Mark Canterbury, 39, of Delbarton, was arrested for burglary, conspiracy to commit a felony, destruction of property and grand larceny.

Canterbury allegedly conspired with Billy St. Claire to break and enter a residence owned by Bennie Ellis.

The defendant, along with St. Claire, reportedly broke the front door and window of the residence, causing damage valued at $700.

The defendants then allgedby destroyed a dutch oven valued at $500, stole three Blue Rhino propane tanks valued at $180 and a Lantern Manifold valued at $129. Also reported stolen were six fishing poles ($600), a folding lawn chair ($40) and a propane hose ($39).

Stephen Ernest Cisco, 56, of Matewan, was arrested for DUI.

According to police reports, the defendant drove his vehicle into a creek. Officers said they smelled alcohol and the defendant allegedly admitted he had been drinking beer. Cisco then reportedly said he was on several different medications.

The defendant allegedly failed the HGN field sobriety test and could not stand to take other sobriety tests. He was taken to Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital for treatment.

Elmer Riley Ooten, 40, of Lenore, was arrested for driving with a suspended license, failure to produce operator's license, no proof of insurance and possession of a controlled substance.

Ooten was pulled over during road patrol due to a defective driver side rear taillight, according to his arrest report. When officers approached the vehicle, a strong alcohol odor was emitting from the defendant, the arresting officers said. An open container of Bud Light allegedly was sitting in the center console of the vehicle. The officer then reportedly requested an operator's license, proof of insurance and proof of registration from the defendant, who could not provide the required information.

The officer then conducted standardized field sobriety tests on the defendant, in which Ooten allegedly failed to perform satisfactorily. A yellow pill that was later determined to be Diazepam, a Schedule III controlled substance, reportedly was found under Ooten's seat.

Mark Russell Deskins, 31, of Lenore, was arrested for DUI and possession of a controlled substance. Deskins was pulled over after officers allegedly witnessed him driving all over the road, crossing and straddling the center line on different occasions. The officers reported noticing that the defendant had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. They conducted three standardized sobriety tests, all of which Deskins allegedly failed.

The defendant was frisked by officers who allegedly discovered a Tylenol bottle containing four blue pills, later identified as Alprazolam, a Schedule III controlled substance.
