Oklahoma Insurance Department Worker Resigns In Wake Of Lewd Email

By Kevin Canfield, Tulsa World, Okla.

Feb. 10--Oklahoma Insurance Department communications officer Glenn Craven has resigned a day after an email sent from the department included a slang term for a woman's breasts.

"The commissioner (John Doak) has accepted the resignation of Glenn Craven, I can say that," communications officer Brant Kale said.

Kale would not say whether the incident was related to an email sent from the Insurance Deparment on Thursday that referred to a slang term for a woman's breasts in describing the criteria for winning an award.

Craven told The Associated Press that he was the employee who sent the email and apologized repeatedly for the email.

He told the AP that he "channeled" an episode of the British television program Monty Python in which a similar phrase was used.

Insurance Department officials said Friday that the email went out to 156,912 email addresses.

Doak said Thursday the draft of the email was not vetted through the normal process and that neither he nor any supervisory staff member was aware of its distribution.

The email about the National Tornado Preparedness Summit, set for March in Oklahoma City, was distributed to insurance agents statewide and to the media. It sought nominations for various awards and included criteria for award candidates. The description for the Insurance Commissioner's Award says it would be presented to the "girl with the biggest t---."
