Tommy Joe Meadows

On January 16, 2013, the world lost a good man. Tommy Joe Meadows (T.J.) was always a calm presence, a smiling face or a jokester to all who knew him. He was a sailor, police officer and building manager by profession, but more importantly, a loving husband, devoted father and good friend. T.J. was generous with his affection and his time. Even during years of poor health, he tried to be active in church and VA affairs. He is also survived by many other family members and all those whom he "adopted," which was most anyone that he knew for more than five minutes.

There are plans for an interment at Arlington National Cemetery, scattering his ashes at sea and a celebration of his life this spring. Final arrangements for these proceedings are incomplete at this time and will be announced at a later date.

T.J. was known by all for his joy of life and togetherness. Even though his body has left this world, his faith was strong in knowing we would see him in the next one. He always said, "If I can't laugh, I'm dead." We all know, he's still finding ways to laugh.

Theodore Richard Weikel

Psalm 1:1-3

Blessed is the man, Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day & night. He shall be like a tree, Planted by the rivers of water. That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.

Theodore Richard Weikel of Pickaway, W.Va., 83, joined his loved ones in Heaven on January 31, 2013.

He was born February 9, 1929, at his homeplace in Lillydale, W.Va., the son of the late Otis McKinley and Eunice Parker Weikel.

Richard was known to all as a hard working, honest, caring friend and neighbor and a loving husband, father and grandfather. He could always be found working at his mill, the farm or in his woodshop.

Richard along with his late brother, Kenneth Weikel started their business by raising chickens and selling eggs. Eventually they were able to purchase a run down truck and started hauling for the community, Richard was 13 and Kenneth was 11. With hard work they were able to save and buy timber-filled property that they cut themselves and logged with horses. This was the beginning of the present day, Weikel Brothers Lumber Company. Richard continued to work at the mill until the end. Even the day of his death, he spent his morning working at the farm and piddling in his woodshop. In his later years, he also restored antique cars.

He was a faithful member of the Mt. Hedding United Methodist Church at Lillydale for his entire life. Richard lived by the golden rule and was always willing to lend a helping hand.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Malcolm and Kenneth Weikel and their wives, Gloria and Evelyn; a sister, Janet Louise; his son, Teddy; and his grandson, Aaron Boggs.

He is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Linda Lee Miller Weikel of Pickaway; two sons, Larry Weikel and companion, Rosetta Sneddon of Pickaway, Ralph Weikel and wife, Tina of Sinks Grove; one daughter, Marsha Taylor and husband, Travis of Charlottesville, Va.; one brother, Marcus Weikel and wife, Brenda of Covington, Va.; one sister, Mary Ellen Booth and husband, Linwell of Lindside.

He will be forever remembered by numerous adoring nieces and nephews, as well.

Although Richard's journey in this world has come to an end, we rejoice in knowing that his eternal life has just begun.
