No licks barred: Petplan Pet Insurance Proudly Announces Collaboration with Pets for Patriots

PR Web

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (PRWEB) May 02, 2012

Petplan Pet Insurance, America’s No. 1-rated pet insurance provider, and Pets for Patriots, a not-for-profit organization that pairs members of the military with homeless last-chance dogs and cats, today have linked up to help give the stress experienced by current and former members of the United States armed forces a really good licking.

There are many stresses associated with military life that challenge veterans and their families alike, including the transition from active duty to civilian life. Pets can help relieve that stress, making the transition easier for everyone, and ease both the visible and invisible wounds of war. But while the use of pets to help soldiers heal is not a new technique – for example, the American Red Cross used pets in convalescent homes after World War II to help our troops – it is still not widely used or completely understood.

This collaboration between Petplan and Pets for Patriots is one that is very close to the heart of Petplan Co-Founder and Co-CEO, and former Captain in the British Royal Marine Commandos, Chris Ashton.

“We have always sought to honor the men and women – and pets – who serve, both by offering a military discount and by introducing the nation’s only truly comprehensive health coverage for working dogs,” said Ashton. “It is important to us, as a company, and to me personally, that we support our veterans and active military, and their four-legged families. Working with Pets for Patriots is the perfect opportunity for us to do just that.”

He continues, “There is an undefinable power that pets have in healing the seen and unseen wounds of war. Transitioning from the conditions of deployment back to ‘normal’ life can be complex, and at times, overwhelming. Last chance pets, and their indomitable spirit and unrelenting, unconditional love, can help melt the pressure felt by our veterans, not to mention their hearts. Simply stated, there is no limit to what a deep bond with a pet can do for a human being.”

“Every day we witness the incredible therapeutic potential of companion dogs and cats who are given a second chance at life,” says Beth Zimmerman, founder and executive director of Pets for Patriots, “and at the same time see the veterans and service members who adopt them transformed. The ability of a pet to accept you completely - without condition - is powerful medicine. We’re grateful to have Petplan on our side not only for their tangible support, but because it’s clear that they share our values and mission.”

For completed pet insurance applications as part of this collaborative promotion, Petplan will make a donation to Pets for Patriots.
