New store carries flame-resistant clothing at factory direct prices [Midland Reporter-Telegram, Texas]

Oct. 04--Looking to clothe West Texas oilfield workers, Tyndale Company Inc. has opened a factory direct store at 9900 W. Interstate 20.

The store carries flame-resistant clothing in sizes through 5X including a complete line of flame-resistant clothing for women, all at factory direct prices. All clothing is made in the USA.

"The oil activity in Texas is contributing to American energy independence and creating jobs at a time when America needs them most," said Rob Whittenberger, Tyndale's president. "Yet many of the workers contributing to these patriotic efforts are wearing imported work clothing when there is a high-quality American-made option available."

The store will carry Tyndale's own line as well as products from key suppliers like Bulwark, Carhartt and Wrangler. Tyndale customers have exclusive access to Rangewear FRC -- a line of professional grade coveralls. A large selection of men's and women's flash fire rated and NFPA 2112-certified garments are available in a full size range. Bulk purchases and corporate accounts are available.

The Midland store is the Pipersville, Pa.-based company's second factory direct location. The company was founded in 1981 by Dale Whittenberger, specializing in flame-resistant workwear. Today Gail Whittenberger serves as chief executive officer.

Store hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Inspired by the experiences of his grandfather and her grandmother, who were healthy enough to stay in their own homes but struggled with maintenance and other tasks, Kendall and Jeremy Warren have opened Home Care Assistance at 6415 N. Highway 349, near Midland Country Club.

"She's my boss," said Jeremy, who said the couple was impressed with the California-based company before buying the local franchise.

He explained that Home Care Assistance, where the motto is "Changing The Way The World Ages" is not a nursing service that tends to medical needs. Instead, he said his staff of caregivers offer companionship, cooking and light housekeeping, laundry and changing bedding, bathing, dressing and grooming assistance, transportation to doctor appointments, errands or activities, assistance with walking or moving from a bed to wheelchair and medication reminders.

Warren said the office has a homey atmosphere complete with a fireplace and full-service kitchen, where the caregivers learn to cook specialty recipes.

He said a client's primary care physician as well as family members are engaged in the process, which begins with a free home assessment. While some long-term insurance plans are accepted, he said the majority of the services are paid for privately.

The Warrens are in the process of hiring with the goal of hiring 50 to 70 caregivers, who will all be trained through Home Care Assistance's accredited university.

"The goal is keeping older adults in their own homes," he said, "while offering peace of mind to their children, too."

More information is available by calling 695-6489, email at [email protected] or online at www.hcawesttexas.com.

Under new ownership is Cafe Unique in San Miguel Square, 3303 N. Midkiff Road.

New owner Shellie Alvarado said she has retained the former owner's business model of offering specials that change daily as well as family-sized meals to go, which are prepared, frozen and sent home with the customer with instructions on how to heat the entree.

What's new, Alvarado said, is that during lunch she also serves authentic Venezuelan food. "It's all Venezuelan," she said.

She also rents out the cafe for bridal or baby showers, birthday parties or other special events.

Possibly starting in November, she said, she plans to open the care a few evenings a month to serve tapas and have salsa music and dancing.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Alvarado can be reached at 425-6108.

She also owns You're Invited by Shellie, a professional event management business that plans special events from weddings to birthday parties, anniversary parties to corporate events.
