"They're giving it away," the 4-year-old proclaimed to his mom, explaining what his plastic figures intended to do with the red boat he had just hooked up to the back of a zebra-striped car.
While it wasn't a red boat that had drawn her to the business south of

"Thank you so much. Thank you, everybody," an emotional Brown said after Kroeker announced she had been selected to receive the car, which was topped with numerous other gifts donated by regional businesses, including a car seat for Nilez, games, toys, food and gas certificates, and hair and skin products. Throughout the process of applying for the car giveaway and coming to the business Saturday morning, Brown said she tried not to allow herself to get her hopes up "because ... it seems like for every step forward, I've taken two steps back."
Having a car again, she added, has been "the answer to a lot of prayers."
"You can't walk everywhere with a 9- and 4-year-old," Brown said, "especially with winter coming."
Kroeker said he'll go with Brown to the
But that's later. Saturday, Brown was content to try to soak up the moment.
