Michael Steinger of Steinger, Iscoe & Greene Condemns Recent Auto Insurance ‘Fraudsters’ Making it Harder for Legitimate Claims

PR Web

(PRWEB) June 11, 2013

Michael Steinger, founding partner of Steinger, Iscoe & Greene, condemns insurance fraud. Staged accidents are one of the most common and costly forms of auto insurance fraud.

Recently, investigators charged 33 people they said were involved in staging accidents for insurance fraud. According to the Sun-Sentinel (5.16.13), the participants staged vehicle collisions. The motorists and passengers then reported they needed treatment from chiropractors and massage therapists.

“Insurance companies pay for fraud, but consumers underwrite these costs in the long run with increased insurance premiums,” said West Palm Beach Car Accident Lawyer, Steinger. “The high cost will be paid by those who have legitimate claims.”

The participants were defrauding the insurance system to make money for themselves and a well-organized group of healthcare providers, reported the Sun-Sentinel. Fraud participants were trained to make the accidents look realistic. Recruiters also taught them to file police reports and insurance claims, and told them where to go for treatment of the injuries they were faking.

The charges were part of Operation Sledgehammer, a three-year investigation that identified about $20 million in fraudulently obtained payouts from insurers. The full state and federal investigation led to charges being filed against 92 defendants from South Florida, the Sun-Sentinel said.

“People who commit insurance fraud also make it harder for legitimate claims to get paid,” said Steinger. “There are people who sincerely need their insurance money. They need the care and recovery time in order to get their lives back on track.”

After a car accident, there may be injuries, pain, suffering and long term conditions associated with the accident. Insurance companies already try to deny and minimize benefits for those who were injured in car accidents.

An attorney usually can get a policyholder much more than an insurance company will offer.

To ensure that you are treated fairly by an insurance company and are offered the compensation you deserve, it is important to obtain legal counsel. Contact Steinger, Iscoe & Greene injury attorneys at 1-800-560-5059.
