Markel Names Liability Underwriter for Stockholm Office

Specialty property and casualty insurer Market International Ltd. appointed Philippe Tamwelius as senior liability underwriter for Markel International Sweden.
He will be based in Markel's Stockholm office.
Richard Fricker, director of overseas offices, said in a statement that the appointment of Tamwelius, together the the appointment earlier this year of Tomas Nilsson as a claims manager in Stockholm, "underlines our strategic commitment to expand in the Nordic markets and to grow our insurance capabilities in the region."
Tamwelius has more than 22 years of experience in insurance. He spent eight years with AIG Europe S.A. in both Paris and Stockholm, where he was chief underwriter for professional liability coverage. He also worked for RSA Scandinavia for two years, where he managed a team of 12 senior underwriting managers for all commercial lines insurance products.
He had also held positions with Zurich Financial and Trygg-Hansa.
