MMIC Adds InteliChart Patient Portal to Its Suite of EHR and Practice Management Offerings [Health & Beauty Close – Up]

Healthcare information technology provider InteliChart, Inc. said that MMIC, a provider of professional liability insurance, risk management and patient safety consulting and technology solutions to the healthcare industry, has added the InteliChart patient portal to its suite of EHR and practice management offerings available to physician practices in the Midwest.

In a release, the Company said that the patient portal will enable MMIC's more than 17,000 providers to enhance health information exchange and patient-physician communication as they prepare to meet Stage 2 Meaningful Use requirements.

Built on a platform that collects, standardizes, normalizes and stores patient data from any electronic health record (EHR) system, the vendor-neutral patient portal will allow MMIC's clients to more easily receive and exchange health information with providers using different technology, the Company noted in a release.

"Many of our practices' health information exchange efforts have been stunted by the interoperability challenges stemming from using incompatible technology," said John Woodward, vice president of sales and marketing at MMIC. "Therefore, it was important for us to select a patient portal that could work with a variety of different EHRs. With InteliChart, our providers will have the most up-to-date patient information so that they can deliver the best patient care possible."

The InteliChart portal will also enable providers to enhance patient engagement by allowing patients to use the technology to update forms, obtain test results, send secure messages to providers and pay bills following a visit. As such, the portal will help MMIC providers prepare to meet Stage 2 Meaningful Use, which requires them to give patients online access to health information.
