MEMBERSHIP MIDWAY

In addition to becoming part of an exciting community of racers and race fans, NHRA Members are entitled to many valuable benefits, explained each week in Membership Midway. Members should refer to this page often for news and updates that will help them receive the greatest possible value from their membership throughout the year. In most cases, members must present their valid NHRA membership card to receive benefits. To join, see the ad on page 45.

NHRA Supports the Weekend Warrior

The speed and spectacle of professional nitro racing may get the headlines, but the foundation of NHRA is anchored firmly in grassroots drag racing at bracket events all over the country, every weekend in the NHRA Summit Racing Series, generously supported by Summit Racing Equipment.

The NHRA Summit Racing Series features a bracket racing format that allows drivers in many types of vehicles to compete on an equal basis against each other. In addition to three categories of competition for cars, a motorcycle category is featured.

NHRA Summit Racing Series racers compete for points and cash awards at a number of qualifying events at approximately 130 NHRA member tracks throughout North America. Drivers who earn the most points are eligible to compete for individual and team honors at the NHRA Summit Racing Series Finals in each of NHRA's seven divisions. Individual winners receive a division champion's trophy and purse along with travel expenses to attend the NHRA Summit Racing Series National Championship in Pomona, held in conjunction with the NHRA Mello Yello season closer, where they will compete for a national championship, $5,000, a national champion's trophy, and bragging rights for the year. Throughout the season, the grassroots racer also has the opportunity to participate in these special events, some of which offer drag racing's ultimate trophy, the NHRA Wally.

NHRA Summit King of the Track Championship

Every NHRA Member Track that participates in the NHRA Summit Racing Series can stage this special event once a year as a bonus race for winners of the weekend's regular competition. Winners from designated classes compete head to head with dials to determine the best of the best, or the King of the Track, who will receive an NHRA Wally and exclusive King of the Track cap.

National Dragster Challenge

For more than 10 years, the official magazine of the National Hot Rod Association has presented the popular National Dragster Challenge for bracket racers at NHRA Member Tracks. The winner of each event is rewarded with a special-edition pewter Wally.

When member tracks report their National Dragster Challenge results, their coverage and photos appear with logo identification in ND's Member Track News section. An updated event calendar appears regularly for easy reference.

Member tracks receive everything needed to stage the event, such as banners, participant decals, advertising and publicity material, and winner's hats and trophies.

"Many drag racers at the local level are unaware of the benefits of NHRA membership," said Adriane Ridder, NHRA vice president of publications. "The goal of the National Dragster Challenge is to bring attention to those benefits, such as the features, photography, and racing 'how-to' articles in National Dragster; the Be A Winner, Be A Member prize incentive program for bracket racers; and especially the $525,000 excess medical insurance coverage, to name a few. We also want to reward the weekend warriors who support our NHRA Member Tracks with the opportunity to compete for a Wally."

NHRA Drags: Street Legal Style presented by AAA

Whether you're a hardcore racing enthusiast or just want to test your driving skills against others, NHRA Drags: Street Legal Style presented by AAA offers a fun and easy alternative to dangerous and illegal street racing. NHRA and its member tracks throughout the country are dedicated to giving all aspiring competitors a place to race, so under this program, anyone with a street-legal car, a valid state driver's license, and proof of registration and insurance can race in a safer, controlled environment on the dragstrip.

NHRA Summit Jr. Drag Racing League Challenge

With support from NHRA and Summit, NHRA Member Tracks can give their Jr. drag racers an opportunity to participate in a special competition just for them, the NHRA Summit Racing Jr. Drag Racing League Challenge. As with the King of the Track and National Dragster Challenge for the grown-ups, the track receives everything they need to stage the event and make it special for the kids who compete, with banners, decals, winner's caps, and specialedition trophies.
