The ARAG scholarship is named for Chad Hensley, a visionary who saw the need for legal protection for employees with financial, family and other legal-related issues and who established a legal insurance provider to give employees access to affordable legal services
DES MOINES, Iowa--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Legal insurer ARAG® has announced the creation of the ARAG Chad Hensley Diversity Scholarship at Drake Law School in honor of Chad Hensley, a former insurance company executive, ARAG board member and Drake Law School graduate.
The annual scholarship will provide $2,500 in financial assistance to a third-year Drake law student. The selection will be based on academic achievement, community involvement and personal commitment to protecting legal rights.
ARAG President and Chief Executive Officer Cam Sutton says, “It is very appropriate that the new scholarship program is named for Chad Hensley, a role model and visionary who saw the importance of providing access to affordable legal services and who established a company to offer important legal resources to meet the needs of a diverse workforce.”
Hensley, retired President and CEO of Preferred Mutual Risk Insurance Company, was a founder of Midwest Legal Services, an Iowa-based company that began marketing and administering group legal plans in the 1970s. The company grew into an industry leader and became a subsidiary of ARAG Group, a global leader in legal insurance. In recent years, legal-related services have become one of the fastest growing voluntary products sold in the employee benefits market, according to the Society of Human Resource Management.
Hensley says, “I am deeply honored the new scholarship is also named for ARAG whose board of directors I served on for many years and Drake University where I earned a law degree. Throughout my career, it has been a privilege to help individuals secure resolution of their legal concerns which, I believe, allows them to be more focused on their jobs, to be more productive and to have better work-life balance.”
“We appreciate the level of commitment ARAG has shown to Drake University and the community through sponsorship of educational and networking activities,” says Allan Vestal, Dean at Drake Law School. “The creation of the ARAG Chad Hensley Diversity Scholarship serves to strengthen our relationship, to enrich the educational experience for Drake law students and to provide added incentives for students to achieve academic, civic and personal excellence in the pursuit of their dreams.”
