Keeping true to their free personalization engraving, this new color personalization option will also be offered at no charge for their street rider series premium biker wallet. “Although there was considerable time and effort involved developing a durable color option, quality, value and customer loyalty has always been our most important goal,” says Carla Ginn, Sales Manager for LaserCraft Studios. “We always wanted to offer a color option for our biker wallets but existing surface painting processes did not offer the durability we were looking for. We needed a new process, one which would allow the color personalization to last as long as the product. This type of durability is not available with a surface color application, especially so with a product used as frequently as a wallet.”

Using a laser to first evaporate the existing product dye, allows for the personalized color choice to be applied to the raw leather fibers rather than to the previously dyed surface of the product. Dyed leather products retain their color brilliance and longevity because the dye or paint color is applied directly to the bare leather fibers. “These key first steps of exposing the bare leather was the most critical in order to move forward and complete the color application process,” says Bob Ginn, Product Development Manager. “Each dye color reacts differently when the laser is applied, therefore each product must be tested to determine the proper laser parameters to insure the dye is completely removed. Once the product laser parameters are discovered, product release will follow."

Personalized leather accessories are certainly not new, and neither are the associated costs to have this done. Technologies such as leather stamping and embossing first require a metal stamp to be manufactured. This stamp creation can add considerable cost to the final product as well any setup charges imposed by the vendor. If personalization is needed for a company logo, this too will substantially increase the product cost. With this new color personalization process, LaserCraft Studios will engrave a one color logo at no charge, providing the logo artwork submitted to them is of a common vector format.
