Lady Mohawks win back-to-back games

June 27--MORAVIA -- The Moravia Lady Mohawks softball squad has won two straight, following a win over Moulton-Udell on Monday and a close win against Murray on Tuesday.

On Monday, the Lady Mohawks recorded an 8-1 victory over the Moulton-Udell Lady Eagles.

A one-out single by Moravia'sSam Williams turned into a run in the second inning, giving the Lady Mohawks an early 1-0 lead. In the next inning, Cheyenne Maddy hit a one-out double. She would score on a fielder's choice by Emma McDanel.

Payton Rogers, Hannah Eastlick and Maddy came around to score in the top of the fourth inning, giving Moravia a 5-0 lead.

After Moravia's Williams and Brooklyn Benjamin came around to score in the top of the fifth, Moulton-Udell broke their silence with a run in the bottom half of the inning. Katie Selvy scored the run, after she reached the base paths with a lead-off single before ultimately scoring on a wild pitch.

The Lady Mohawks scored their final run of the game in the top of the seventh, with Benjamin scoring her second run of the game on a wild pitch.

On Tuesday, the Lady Mohawks beat Murray 6-5 in a back-and-forth Bluegrass Conference matchup.

Murray jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead after the first inning. Moravia recorded two runs in the second to tie the game.

In the fifth inning, Murray added a run while Moravia added two, giving the Lady Mohawks a 4-3 lead. Moravia added two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to make the score 6-3.

Murray's comeback attempt fell just shy in the top of the seventh, as they only brought two runs across the plate, as Moravia took the 6-5 win.

Moravia (9-7, 7-1 in BGC) will be at home against Seymour tonight starting at 6 p.m.
