PR Newswire Association LLC

ROCKVILLE, Md., June 3, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States is proud to work with the state of Maryland to provide health care to Medicaid enrollees. On June 2, Kaiser Permanente became a participating managed care organization in Maryland, bringing its nationally recognized quality, preventive care and convenience to Maryland individuals and families enrolled in Medicaid.

"For nearly 35 years Kaiser Permanente has provided quality care and coverage to the residents of Maryland," said Kim Horn (@KimHornKPMAS), president, Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States. "We look forward to now serving Marylanders enrolled in Medicaid and helping families and children live healthy lives, allowing them to thrive."

While Marylanders have been able to participate in Kaiser Permanente medicine in the employer, individual and Medicare markets, they will now benefit from Kaiser Permanente's award-winning care in Medicaid. Kaiser Permanente's conveniently co-located services, interconnected use of technology and nationally ranked physicians will be available to HealthChoice recipients in the following counties:  Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Calvert, Charles, Harford, Howard, Montgomery, Prince George's and St. Mary's.

"I am very pleased that Kaiser Permanente, which has ranked the highest for quality among private health plans in Maryland in recent years, is now also serving Marylanders in the Medicaid program," said Dr. Joshua M. Sharfstein, Secretary for the MD Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

Kaiser Permanente's recent honors include:

  • Ranked first in the region and 16th in the nation per National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Health Insurance Plan Rankings;
