John H. Adee, 71, retired Cigna executive, vice president of West Conshohocken Borough Council [The Philadelphia Inquirer]

March 29John H. Adee, 71, a retired Cigna executive and vice president of West Conshohocken Borough Council, died of cardiopulmonary failure, Tuesday, March 20, at Presbyterian Hospital in Philadelphia.

Mr. Adee became involved in borough affairs in 1998, after he and his wife, Annelouise "Pinky," built a home in the Merion Hills section of West Conshohocken.

He served on the borough sewer commission and the zoning committee and had been a member of council since October 2010. He cared about borough workers and listened to their concerns, his wife said. "He was a diplomat," she said.

Mr. Adee grew up on Long Island. In 1962, he earned a bachelor's degree from Princeton University.

After graduating, he joined the Connecticut General Life Insurance Co. management training program in Garden City, N.Y. He worked for the firm in Buffalo and Ridgewood, N.J., and then in Bloomfield, Conn., after Connecticut Life merged with Insurance Company of North America to become Cigna.

In 1990, he became a vice president for marketing for Cigna in Philadelphia and later was with Cigna's international marketing division. He retired as a vice president for Asian markets in 1997.

Mr. Adee and his wife were volunteers for Hosts for Hospitals, opening their home to guests from all over the world who had come to the Philadelphia area for medical treatment.

At Princeton, he played the trombone in the marching band and in a jazz combo and continued to play with combos and dance bands for 20 years. He was also a classical music aficionado and attended Philadelphia Orchestra concerts with his wife.

He was, his wife said, a "Renaissance man," who was knowledgeable about music, art history, philosophy, computer technology, and photography.

Mr. Adee was a fan of the Phillies, the New York Yankees, the Eagles and, especially, the Flyers. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's ice hockey games.

In addition to his wife of 50 years, he is survived by daughters Judith Leppek and Jeannemarie; a son John Jr.; a brother; and nine grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 30, at Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, 625 Montgomery Ave., Bryn Mawr, Pa. 19010.

Donations may be made to Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church Fine Art Dept.
