Insurance Industry Unites Around Education

The insurance industry will come together in celebration of educational leaders at the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation’s (IICF) 19th annual benefit dinner being held Thursday, May 3, 2012 at the Four Seasons Hotel, San Francisco. The philanthropic event will draw together over 300 industry executives from across the western United States.

Khan Academy founder, Sal Khan, will serve as the evening’s featured speaker. The Khan Academy is a nonprofit with the mission of providing free, high-quality education to "anyone, anywhere" in the world. The Khan Academy website provides the most-used library of educational videos on the web, with 4.2 million unique students per month, over 118 million lessons delivered, and over 260 million exercises completed.

“Education is the cornerstone of a successful future, both for our community and for our industry. The IICF is proud to highlight the contributions of outstanding educational leaders making a positive impact in the lives of our community’s children and those providing the groundwork for our industry’s future,” said Pat Dowd, IICF Western Division dinner chairman and managing director, Aon Benfield.

The IICF will honor Boys Hope Girls Hope San Francisco Bay Area (BHGH-SF Bay Area), a non-profit residential program dedicated to improving the lives of children who are academically-motivated, but whose circumstances impede their healthy development. The IICF will present BHGH-SF Bay Area with a special grant for their efforts to assist local San Francisco youth reach their full potential.

“BHGH-SF Bay Area is dedicated to helping children who have the potential to succeed -- academically and in life -- but can’t do it without support. Whether it be through our boys’ residential program or our non-residential girls’ program, Boys Hope Girls Hope provides a nurturing environment, teaching academic and life skills that will help our scholars succeed as they move through high school, to college and beyond,” commented Suzanne Palmer, BHGH –SF Bay Area executive director. “The support of the IICF and the insurance community provides a powerful message of community encouragement and support for our scholars.”

In addition to honoring leaders in community education, the IICF event will also recognize the contributions of educational leaders within the insurance industry. California State University, Fullerton’s Center for Insurance StudiesWeili Lu.

The IICF annual benefit dinner provides an opportunity for insurance professionals from across the industry to come together in a united philanthropic effort, raising vital funds for local nonprofits. Proceeds from the evening will benefit multiple nonprofit programs through the Foundation’s community grants program. To date, the Industry Foundation has contributed over $18 million and 155,000 volunteer service hours to hundreds of community nonprofits.
