H.S. Roundup: Ramblers rally to beat Falcons in extras

April 29--RUMFORD -- Ben Allen ripped an RBI double in the ninth inning that plated Mario Meucci to give Winthrop a 9-8 win over Mountain Valley in a MVC thriller Monday.

The Falcons (0-2) led 6-4 after three frames in this active scoring affair. Jake Steele led the Ramblers (1-1) with a pair of hits.

Josh Mason and Tom Marshall led Mountain Valley with two hits each.

Hall-Dale 4, Spruce Mountain 0

LIVERMORE FALLS -- Brian Allen hurled seven innings of one-hit baseball and received adequate run support as Hall-Dale rolled over Spruce Mountain 4-0 in MVC action Monday.

Sam Moulton ignited a three-run third frame for Hall-Dale (2-1) with a two-run single. Tyler DeBlois and Bob Cumler pounded out two hits apiece for Hall-Dale.

John McKenna tallied the lone hit for Spruce Mountain (0-2).

Messalonskee 11, Edward Little 0

OAKLAND -- Devin Warren scattered four hits and drew ample run support as Messalonskee raced away to a 11-0 rout over Edward Little in more KVAC baseball action Monday.

Zack Mathieu broke things open in the third frame with a three-run home run. Mathieu led the Eagles (2-0) with a pair of hits, while Caleb Beqan belted out a double.

Lew Jensen worked the first two frames for the Eddies and was tagged with the loss.

Lawrence 8, Lewiston 4

FAIRFIELD -- Lawrence scored five times in the sxith inning to rally to an 8-4 victory over Lewiston in KVAC baseball action on Monday.

Trailing 4-3, the Bulldogs loaed the bases on two walks and single. JT Nutting drove in the tying run on a comebacker to the mound. An error put Lawrence in front, then Joe LeClair drove in a pair of insurance runs with a double.

Alex Chesley led Lawrence (1-1) with two hits, including a double. Nick Perreault had an RBI double for Lewiston (1-2). Eddie Emerson struck out eight but took the loss for the Blue Devils.

Poland 13, Fryeburg 1

FRYEBURG -- Lukas Johnson scattered four hits and drew tons of run support Monday as Poland hustled to a 13-1 romp over Fryeburg in an early-season MVC matchup.

Corey Cunliffe led the Knights (2-0) with four RBIs on two hits, while Jake Simard and Kaleb Bridgham each drove in a pair of runs.

Trevor Henschel plated the lone run for Fryeburg (0-2) with an RBI single in the fourth.

Lacrosse

Morse 13, Oak Hill 4

BATH -- Otto Werwais netted five goals Monday to propel Morse to a 13-4 romp over Oak Hill in KVAC boys' lacrosse action.

Perry chase and Alec Beveridge chipped in for the Shipbuilders with two goals each, while single tallies by Oliver Kruze, Dylan Crowell, Kevin Tolan and Kevin Feeney completed the scoring.

Kyle Flaherty led the Raiders with three goals, while Steven Gilbert also tallied. Matty Martin made nine saves for Oak Hill.

Softball

Leavitt 5, Erskine 1

TURNER -- Abbie Robertson scattered seven hits and drew ample run support as Leavitt hustled to a 5-1 win over Erskine Monday afternoon.

Cierra Hilliard belted a two-run single in the sixth frame for Leavitt (2-0), while Emily Perkins and Kaitlyn DeBlois each pounded out two hits.

Sally Sutter led Erskine (0-2) with a pair of hits in the contest.

Hall-Dale 15, Spruce Mountain 5

JAY -- Hall-Dale erupted for five runs in the fourth inning and raced away to post a 15-5 win over Spruce Mountain in a MVC softball tilt Monday.

Emily Maynard sparked that key fourth frame with a two-run single. Olivia Maynard earned the win with six strikeouts and no walks.

Kailee Newcomb led the Phoenix (1-1) with two hits and two RBIs, while Kayla Johnson also belted out a pair of hits.

Messalonskee 12, Edward Little 7

OAKLAND -- Messalonskee put seven runs on the board in the fourth and fifth frames before hustling to a 12-7 victory over Edward Little.

Mollyann Killingbeck led the Eagles (2-0) with three hits and two RBIs, highlighted by a home run in the second inning. Kylee Knight also contributed with a pair of hits.

The Red Eddies (0-2) were paced by Hannah Smith and Danny Rock with two hits apiece, with Rock smashing a home run for her squad.

Dirigo 8, Oak Hill 5

DIXFIELD -- Megan Bradbury doubled and singled and Lauren Henderson had a pair of hits as Dirigo dismissed Oak Hill with an 8-5 victory in a softball game Monday.

The Cougars (1-0) brought home eight runs in the first two innings. Katelyn Olsen went the distance and struck out seven batters for Dirigo.

Sadie Goulet hammered out a three-run homer in the seventh inning and Kayla Veilleux had two hits for the Raiders.

Telstar 18, Wiscasset 5

WISCASSET -- Jesse Dirago hurled five innings of one-hit softball and drew all kinds of run support as Jim Lunnie's Telstar squad rolled to as 18-5 win over Wiscasset.

Maisey Griffin and Autum Morin led the Rebels (1-0) with five RBIs each, with Morin smacking a Gran Slam homer in the fifth inning.

The Wolverines (0-2) picked up unearned runs through walks, with windy conditions making it difficult to control pitches.

Winthrop 11, Mountain Valley 3

RUMFORD -- Cat Ouellette belted a grand slam and a double and drove in five runs to lead Winthrop to an 11-3 win over Mountain Valley in MVC softball action on Monday.

Ouellette was one of four Ramblers to collect doubles in their season-opener, joining Randi Dennett, Kennedy Conner and Tessie Moody. Pitcher Krissi Doughty picked up the win, scattering nine hits over seven innings. Katie Collette led the Falcons (1-1) with two hits, including a double. Shannon Laubauskas also had two hits and Sam Higley added a double.

Lake Region 11, Gray-NG 2

NAPLES -- Lake Region exploded for 10 runs in the sixth inning Monday and went on to post an 11-2 victory over Gray- in more local softball action.

Casey Heath went 4-for-4 to lead the Lakers (1-1), while Ashley Clark belted out three hits.

Clark earned the pitching win with nie strikeouts, two walks and five hits allowed.

Fryeburg 5, Poland 2

FRYEBURG -- Sarah Harriman celebrated her 500th high career strikeout as Fryeburg Academy held off a stubborn Poland with a 5-2 victory in a softball game Monday.

Harriman struck out 10 batters for the day.

The Raiders took an early 3-0 lead, but the Knights scored two runs in third inning. Fryeburg got a run in the fourth inning when Makayla Frost doubled and eventually crossed the plate for a run.
