Former U.S. Assistant Surgeon General, Dr. Roscoe M. Moore, Jr. Joins VivoNex, LLC as Senior Advisor

Coral Gables, FL (PRWEB) December 6, 2010

VivoNex, LLC, the parent company of the NexDose® Medication Management System, a leading medication adherence technology platform, is pleased to announce the appointment of former U.S. Assistant Surgeon General, Rear Admiral Roscoe M. Moore, Jr. (USPHS, Ret) as Senior Advisor.

Dr. Moore has vast experience within the U.S. Public Health Service, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the Office of U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services. The company believes Dr. Moore will be an important advocate to increase awareness about patient facing solutions to improve medication adherence. Products like NexDose, which help patients take medication properly, can help reduce the annual expenditure of over $200 billion attributed to medication non-adherence.

According to Dr. Moore, "Patient non-adherence to medication therapy is a problem that affects outcome with virtually every disease; it crosses international boundaries and affects people in every social and economic strata. NexDose is an affordable technology that has the potential to save lives, keep patients out of hospitals and nursing homes, and free up valuable healthcare dollars that are wasted because of poor adherence. Approaches like NexDose are technologies we must embrace in our struggle to contain healthcare costs."

Over 50% of prescribed medications are not taken properly, with the most common reason cited by patients being that they simply “sometimes forget.” Poor adherence contributes to more than 125,000 deaths from cardiac disease each year and is a major cause for admission to hospitals and nursing homes. It also adversely affects the work force by contributing to absenteeism and increased health insurance costs.

The NexDose adherence system helps patients take medication properly; helps identify patients with poor adherence and supports behavioral interventions aimed at improving patient adherence. Proper medication adherence can improve a patient’s health and reduce hospital and emergency room visits.

NexDose combines a portable microcomputer with a personal online medication record to provide electronic dosing reminders and a real-time patient adherence record that enables patient adherence monitoring and counseling.

By comparing actual patient medication usage to patient prescription orders, healthcare stakeholders can identify patient behaviors and gain insight into ways to improve patient medication adherence and health through specific interventions, incentives, and wellness programs.

VivoNex, LLC looks forward to working with Dr. Roscoe Moore, Jr. as the Company’s Senior Advisor. According to VivoNex President Dr. Ronald Sekura, "Dr. Moore shares our enthusiasm to develop and implement healthcare solutions that not only work to improve patient health but also contribute to reducing the cost of healthcare. We look forward to working with him in our efforts to communicate the importance of good adherence to the public, government, insurers and other stakeholders in the Nation's healthcare system.

About VivoNex, LLC: The failure of patients to use prescribed medications properly is a major health problem in the United States. It results in significant patient morbidity and mortality and creates a huge financial burden for the U.S. healthcare system. VivoNex, LLC was founded with the objective of building and implementing technological solutions designed to increase patient adherence with prescribed medication therapy.
