Find Willpower for Cold Weather Workouts With These Four Tips from Healthyroads

PR Web

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) March 07, 2014

With snow, ice and sleet still keeping millions of Americans indoors right now, it can be hard to find the motivation and willpower to work out. So how do you meet your exercise goals? Treat your willpower like another muscle, and keep it strong with these tips from Healthyroads.

   •      Tackle one goal at a time. Using a lot of willpower in one area of your life can make it harder to resist temptation in other areas. So trying to exercise regularly and quitting smoking at the same time may be too much. Focus on the most important goal and success will come more easily.

   •      Make a temptation plan. Think about the ways in which you might be tempted. Then, make a plan that helps you meet your goal. For example, if you’re trying to work out each day but know that your favorite TV shows are on in the evening, then plan to exercise in the morning. You won’t tap as much of your willpower reserves if you’ve planned what to do in advance.

   •      Eat healthy foods regularly. Restore your glucose levels with low-fat protein, fruits and vegetables. Keep meals healthy. If dieting, eat small, healthy meals often, rather than skipping meals.

   •      Practice mindfulness. It’s a strong willpower ally. To start, pay attention to your feelings but don’t judge them. Then, calm your brain with deep breathing or another type of relaxation.

With these tips in mind, you’ll have more willpower to keep up your workout in spite of the dreary weather.
