County big-ticket spending heads for commission vote [The Commercial Appeal, Memphis, Tenn.]
Jun. 17--Big-ticket spending items and outside contracts were on Shelby County Commission committee agendas Wednesday.
Approval of the endorsed spending items will be considered by the full commission on Monday.
Some purchases are covered by outside sources, such as grants, while others come from county property tax dollars.
Here are the highlights:
$5 million for services for people with HIV and AIDS.
$1.3 million to AlliedBarton Security Services for provision of security guard services at county buildings. AlliedBarton beat out existing contractor CDA in a competitive process.
$1.2 million for the county Head Start program.
$1 million to Benchmark Food Services and other vendors for perishable foods.
$614,000 to archimania and Self Tucker Architects for services related to the renovation of the county building at 160 N. Main.
$500,000 for the relocation of computer and network data services from the 10th floor to the 12th floor of the Vasco A. Smith Jr. Administration Building.
$400,000 to Datacomm Services Corp. to acquire items such as voice and data cable services on an as-needed basis for Shelby County government.
$400,000 to CorVel Corp. for on-the-job medical bill review and related services.
$389,000 to Standard Construction Co. and for Fullen Dock and Warehouse for gravel and sand.
$363,000 to Benchmark Food Service for perishable foods for Head Start.
$360,000 to Staples Contract and Commercial Inc. for furniture.
$350,000 to Mendola & Associates for an audit of tangible personal property accounts.
$349,000 to Dillard Door & Entrance Control for the installation of surveillance cameras for the Sheriff's Office.
