Commissioners talk insurance, take no action [The Graham Leader, Texas]

Dec. 11--Young County Commissioners talked insurance but took no action at Monday's meeting.

County Auditor Cheryl Roberts opened two bids for property, vehicle and liability insurance for the coming calendar year, but commissioners sent the bidding agents back to the drawing board.

Casi Clarich from Texas Association of Counties which provides some type of insurance for three-quarters of the state's counties, entered a bid for $64,659 to cover the county's risk for the year while the county's current insurer Jackie Webb of Webb Insurance of Graham quoted a price of $106,414.

Roberts said Webb's number is up from the approximately $98,000 the county paid for insurance last year, but several claims totaling $270,000 were filed in 2012 including multiple auto accidents.

While comparing the bids, commissioners discovered that while Webb's quote met the specifications of the bid, Clarich's did not.

Clarich prepared the quote going by tort limitations of $300,000 for auto while Webb quoted $1 million for liability.

Also, Clarich's quote did not include a $2 million commercial general liability required in a 10 year contract which expires in 2014 for a tower lease the county holds.

Precinct 2 Commissioners Matt Pruitt said he was concerned with the liability cap the county has been overpaying for insurance for years.

Webb said he would like to be given the opportunity to adjust his quote to reflect the $300,000 limit for auto.

Commissioners opted to allow the agents to adjust their quotes and present them at a special meeting called for 1:30 p.m.Dec. 17.
