Cinergy Health Supports National Nutrition Month in an Effort to Reduce Healthcare Costs
AVENTURA, Fla., March 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Cinergy Health, a nationwide health insurance agency providing guaranteed issue and short term major medical insurance programs, discusses the importance of proper diet for March's National Nutrition Month, how a healthy lifestyle can reduce insurance costs and the steps Americans can take towards wellness.
"It is vital for Americans to start living healthier lives, especially since many children and adults are becoming increasingly overweight leading to multiple health risks," said Daniel Touizer, CEO and Founder of Cinergy Health. "Programs like March National Nutrition Month are a great way to impel Americans to take charge of their health, which will ultimately drive down insurance costs."
Recent data from the National Center for Health Statistics revealed that 67 percent of Americans are overweight or obese. Those numbers are supported by a CBS News Report stating that healthy fruits and vegetables make up only 10 percent of caloric intake in the U.S. diet and that less than 20 percent of Americans eat the recommended five or more servings of fruits and vegetables each day.
As a result, Dr. Margaret Lewin, Medical Director of Cinergy Health, created five simple steps to encourage a healthy diet and lifestyle.
- Emphasize mealtimes and plan ahead to provide healthier foods. Serve the healthier lower calories foods first to satiate the appetite, leaving the calorie-dense foods for last.
- Keep healthy food handy. Instead of keeping fruits, veggies and healthy snacks hidden in your refrigerator or cupboard, try keeping items out on the kitchen counter or your office desk to make them convenient.
- Stay active. Walk or bike to as many activities as is safe and practical. When driving to a mall or supermarket, park your car as far as feasible from your destination. Remember, when you "save energy" you're saving calorie expenditure.
- Drink more water. Often people mistake dehydration for hunger. Drink 8-10 glasses a day as it cleanses and detoxifies all the impurities in your system.
- Carbohydrates are important. You need to eat foods high in carbs since they're your body's main source of energy, but choose the right carbs like whole grain flour, hearty vegetables, oats and unprocessed grains like brown rice.
