Chehalis Accepting Public Works Director Applications [The Chronicle, Centralia, Wash.]

Nov. 06--The city of Chehalis is accepting applications for its open Public Works Director position after former director Herta Fairbanks resigned last month.

The public works director position oversees all operational and administrative facets of the city's street, water, wastewater, stormwater, engineering and utility billing divisions, according to the city.

Candidates are encouraged to apply by Tuesday, Dec. 3. The city will continue to accept applications until the position is filled.

The annual salary for the position is between $72,430 and $88,039, depending on qualifications. The position comes with membership in the Washington State PERS retirement system, employee and family medical, dental and vision insurance.

To apply, candidates must submit a cover letter, resume, signed City of Chehalis application form

and response to supplemental questions to Human Resources Administrator Peggy Hammer.

Fairbanks, Chehalis public works director for the past two and a half years, submitted a brief letter of resignation last month that did not explain why she stepped down.

"I hereby submit my letter of resignation for the position of Public Works Director for the City of Chehalis, effective today, October 11, 2013," Fairbanks wrote in the one-sentence letter.

City officials have not confirmed the reason for Fairbank's resignation.

Street and Stormwater Superintendent Rick Sahlin was named interim public works director as the city begins its search for a new director.
