--West Texas Diamonds in the Ruff has scheduled a jumping party fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Jumping Party of Odessa, 623 E. 42nd St.

Fifty percent of the proceeds will go towards West Texas Diamonds in the Ruff, an animal rescue group that is focused on helping animals that are abandoned, homeless, injured or in the pound.

--Bike MS: Cactus & Crude Ride 2014, presented by Apache, has been scheduled July 19-20

The ride starts in Midland and travels through the byways and highways of the Permian Basin area cruising into Big Spring for an overnight celebration at the South West Collegiate Institute for the Deaf. On the second day of the ride, cyclists will enjoy the dramatic scenery of West Texas as they head to Post to cross the finish line.

The annual two-day fundraising ride is an opportunity to raise funds to support Multiple Sclerosis research and programs and services that directly impact individuals and families living with the disease.

Registration is $25 until July 19. Registered cyclists are required to commit to a minimum fundraising pledge of $250.

--The Permian Basin Poetry Society is accepting submissions for the Anthology of Written and Visual Art.

The theme is worldwide positive change. All genres of written and visual art are welcome. There is no age requirement.

Up to three works by a participant can be considered. The deadline is June 15.

The anthology release date will coincide with 100,000 Poets and Others for Positive Change event scheduled Sept. 27 at Noel Plaza Park.

--ALPINE Sul Ross State University Department of Natural Resource Management has scheduled a course, Introduction to Field Studies (NRM 2203), Monday through Friday.

The course is an introduction to field research and is designed for undergraduate students with a career interest in field research.

Students will become familiar with the flora, fauna, geology and climate of the Chihuahuan Desert of West Texas and Mexico, one of the most bio-diverse deserts in the world. Highlights of the course include camping and hiking in Big Bend Ranch State Park and Big Bend National Park and lectures on geology, soils, vegetation, ornithology, astronomy, archaeology, paleontology, herpetology, hydrology and nocturnal entomology. Field safety, first aid, camping essentials, hiking, keeping a field journal and using field equipment, such as a compass and GPS, will also be covered.

Students who complete the course will earn two semester credits.

The anticipated cost is $496.50 for tuition and fees and $250 per person for food and lodging.
